On christmas of 2020 I received one of my favorite christmas gifts to date! My mother mailed an art set to me as I was not traveling that year, mainly due to Covid. During the covid pandemic this supplies really became an outlet for me. I was not working at the time. The house I was renovating basically was at a standstill because the government offices to pull permits were closed. This really left me a lot of free time to get creative. Most of the items I drew or painted during this time, I personally thought were shit. Though one drawing stood out. Not only because it was my first attempt but also because of why I drew them. I have always been captivated by paintings and images of lips. I began after watching a youtube video, that now I cannot find.

January 7th, 2021.
I drew this the day after the January 6th, 2021 capitol riot in the USA. The riot was over a group of ‘conservative’ individuals feeling like the US election was stolen from them. They were feeling ‘oppressed’ and did everything possible to make sure Donald Trump was staying in office. Luckily for us all, in every part of the world, he did not.
Growing up in southern Georgia I knew a lot of individuals that supported the previous president. For me, being the gay liberal son, Trump stood for everything that I was against. I still think to myself “How can someone support ‘me’ and also vote for things that go against me and my life”. I do not believe you get to have both options. I do not believe you can ‘love’ me and who I am and also support and vote for things that go against who I am and my human rights.
Sometimes art and creativity can get very political…
